Hakka Sencha is based on sencha from Kanaya, Shizuoka, blended with wa-hakka (Japanese mint) grown in Takinoue, Hokkaido.
Takinoue, surrounded by the wide nature of Hokkaido, is one of the few places in Japan that grows wa-hakka. Most of the mint grown there is distilled into essential oil, so dried wa-hakka that can be used in tea is very rare.
Compared with mint herbs such as spearmint and peppermint, wa-hakka contains more menthol, the compound behind that cooling sensation, and it is valued for its refreshing aroma.
The sweetness, moderate astringency and body of the sencha are joined by a mint aroma that rises through the nose, giving a very refreshing cup.
It comes in tea bags, so it is easy to use at home, at work or when you are out. Try it when you feel sleepy at work or simply want to refresh.
